The United Cities and Local Governments Asia Pacific (UCLG ASPAC)—the largest regional section of United Cities and Local Government—invites photographers and urban visionaries everywhere to submit their best images illustrating local efforts toward sustainable, resilient cities and regions. Co-hosted by Goyang Special City, Republic of Korea, this competition celebrates innovation, diversity and community engagement, with winners announced at the 10th UCLG ASPAC Congress (24–26 September 2025).
Themes & Categories
Participants may submit up to three original photographs (JPG, ≥ 10 MB), each paired with a short (max 100 words) description in English. Entries must align with one of five sub-themes:
- Job Creation
Scenes of grassroots initiatives and enterprises in renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, waste‐management or other green-economy sectors that generate local employment. - Youth Leadership
Young people driving environmental or social innovation—youth-led projects, community events or urban campaigns shaping the city of tomorrow. - Energy Self-sufficiency
Visual stories of communities or infrastructures harnessing solar, wind, geothermal or other renewable sources to meet local energy needs. - Family-friendly Cities
Urban spaces designed for families—public parks, accessible transport, community centres or safe streets that support parents and children. - Urban Growth
Smart-growth solutions balancing population increases with green infrastructure—vertical gardens, mixed-use developments, resilient architecture or nature-integrated planning.
Eligibility & Entry Rules
- Open to all members of the public (except UCLG ASPAC staff).
- Photographs must be original, free of third-party claims, and comply with copyright and minor-consent requirements.
- No political symbols or sensitive imagery.
- Up to three entries per person; each photo must include title, category and description.
- Submission deadline: Friday, 8 August 2025 (23:59 GMT +7).
Prizes & Recognition
- USD 500 (taxes included) and a certificate for the winner in each category.
- Winning images showcased during the 10th UCLG ASPAC Congress in Goyang, and featured in post-event publications.
