About the AGNES-BAYER Science Foundation Research Grant
The AGNES-BAYER Science Foundation Research Grant for Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Agriculture in Sub-Saharan Africa supports doctoral students from sub-Saharan African countries undertaking outstanding research activities in biodiversity conservation and sustainable agriculture.
The proposed activities must form part of the applicant’s doctoral research, including but not limited to field experiments, data collection, or laboratory studies. Eligible junior researchers must demonstrate how their research contributes to the sustainable development of their home countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
Each successful applicant will receive a maximum grant of EUR 7,000 to support fieldwork and related research activities.
Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be officially registered for a doctoral degree at a recognized university or tertiary institution in sub-Saharan Africa.

Applicants must be nationals of a sub-Saharan African country.

The research must focus on biodiversity conservation and/or sustainable agriculture.

Candidates must have published at least one scientific paper in a non-predatory journal.

Applicants must demonstrate the relevance of their research to development challenges in sub-Saharan Africa.
Application Guidelines
Direct applications from qualified junior researchers are welcome. The proposal should clearly describe the planned research activities, methodologies, and expected outcomes. Applicants are also encouraged to highlight how their work aligns with biodiversity protection, food security, and sustainable agricultural practices across the continent.
