About TLC
The Liveability Challenge (TLC) is an annual global initiative that seeks groundbreaking solutions to address the world’s most pressing urban and environmental challenges, particularly in the tropics. Presented by Temasek Foundation and organised by Eco-Business, the challenge crowd-sources high-impact innovations that can help create sustainable, resilient, and liveable cities — from renewable energy and waste management to cooling technologies and circular economy solutions that can transform how communities, industries, and food systems function.
Since its launch in 2018, TLC has become Asia’s largest sustainability solutions platform, supporting innovators whose projects bridge climate resilience, food security, and environmental protection. Over eight editions, TLC has attracted thousands of global applicants, incubated 54 start-ups, and deployed nearly S$14 million in catalytic funding to advance climate-smart technologies, many with applications in agriculture, water systems, and resource efficiency.
TLC 2026 Highlights
The ninth edition of The Liveability Challenge comes with a record S$4 million funding boost to accelerate innovations in decarbonisation, passive cooling, and circular resource management. With support from Temasek Foundation and Singapore’s A*Star, this year’s challenge aims to take cutting-edge sustainability solutions from the lab to market.
Why It Matters for Agriculture and Climate Action
TLC’s focus areas—such as waste-to-energy systems, resource circularity, and urban cooling—closely align with sustainable agricultural innovation. Solutions that optimise energy use, reduce emissions, improve soil and water management, or convert organic waste into renewable inputs can directly strengthen agricultural productivity and climate resilience.
