  • Anywhere

Agricultural systems around the world are increasingly vulnerable to climate change, pests, diseases, and soil degradation. Farming communities are on the frontlines of these challenges, innovating to maintain food security and sustainable livelihoods.

The National Geographic Society, in collaboration with PepsiCo’s Food for Tomorrow initiative, is offering Level II grants of up to $150,000 to support innovative projects that apply science and practical solutions to make farms, farming communities, and natural ecosystems more resilient.

Focus Areas for Funded Projects

Projects should demonstrate measurable outcomes in at least two of the following:

  • Soil Health: Improve soil fertility and ecosystem productivity

  • Climate Mitigation & Adaptation: Increase resilience to climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions

  • Watershed Health: Reduce nutrient runoff and enhance water management

  • Biodiversity: Protect and restore biodiversity, including pollinators and soil microbiomes

  • Improved Livelihoods: Enhance farmers’ access to training, decision-making, and sustainable agricultural practices

Projects must have a predominant field or land component and include terrestrial food crops such as corn, wheat, oats, potatoes, sugar beets, rice, cocoa, oil palm, and soy. Preference will be given to projects that are science-based, locally led, and co-produced with farming communities.
