About the Scholarship
Named in honor of Brian Bushnell, the developer of the BBtools bioinformatic suite, this scholarship supports students passionate about the growing field of bioinformatics—an interdisciplinary area vital for analyzing biological data in human, animal, and plant research.
Eligibility Criteria

Must be an undergraduate student

Must have a minimum GPA of 2.8

Must be pursuing a major in bioinformatics, computer science, biology, agriculture, or plant sciences
Application Requirements

Submit two letters of recommendation

At least one must be from a professional reference (e.g., professor)

Write a 400–600 word essay on:
“Your accomplishments in the field of bioinformatics and your career goals.”
Examples of bioinformatics experience may include:

Learning software/tools for bioinformatic analysis
