The CLARITY-Africa project—led by Imperial College London in partnership with the University of Ghana, AIMS Research & Innovation Centre (RIC), and others—is offering full PhD scholarships to African students interested in cutting-edge research on the intersection of climate change, urbanization, and public health.
What’s the CLARITY-Africa Project About?
- Focuses on how climate change (heat, flooding, and drought) affect vulnerable urban populations in Accra, Tamale (Ghana) and Kigali, Musanze (Rwanda).
- Includes collaboration between academia, policy actors, and communities.
- Supports research that is innovative, policy-relevant, and grounded in real-world urban challenges.

Study Locations
- University of Ghana (PhD duration: 4 years)
- AIMS RIC (PhD duration: 3 years)
Eligibility
- Open to applicants from all African countries (UG accepts Ghanaian nationals only)
- Master’s degree in a relevant field: climate science, public health, demography, environmental science, economics, geography, or mathematical/physical sciences
- Familiarity with statistical/analytical tools is a plus
- Strong academic record and research interest in heat, flooding, or drought in one of the four cities
- UG PhD Year 1 students are also eligible

- Statement of purpose (max 2,000 words)
- Two-page research proposal
- Updated academic CV (including publications/research experience)
