The Global Framework on Chemicals (GFC) Fund, managed by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), has announced the second round of applications, opening 30 September 2025 and closing 15 December 2025 for the submission of concept notes.

This fund supports projects that promote the safe and sustainable management of chemicals and waste, particularly in high-impact sectors such as agriculture, textiles, electronics, and construction. The initiative aligns with global environmental and health goals to reduce pollution and promote sustainable production practices.

Strategic Priorities

The Fund will prioritize proposals that:

  • Strengthen institutional capacity to manage chemicals and waste sustainably at the national level.

  • Promote safe and sustainable practices in sectors like agriculture, supporting cleaner production and reduced environmental hazards.

  • Support cross-sectoral initiatives that enhance cooperation between government, industry, and communities.

  • Catalyse sustainable financing, unlocking public and private resources for long-term environmental benefits.

  • Deliver measurable impact on people and the environment, particularly through regional or transboundary actions.

Who Can Apply

  1. Governments – particularly those from developing economies, Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Small Island Developing States (SIDS), or countries with economies in transition.

    • Applications must include endorsement from the national GFC focal point and, where relevant, letters of support from other authorities.

  2. Civil Society Networks – in exceptional cases, representatives may apply with official consent from the host country’s GFC focal point.

Application Process

  1. Stage 1: Submit a Concept Note between 30 September – 15 December 2025.

  2. Stage 2: Shortlisted applicants will be invited in April 2026 to submit a Full Proposal by June 2026.

  3. Final Selection: Funding decisions will be announced in October 2026.

Concept notes must be submitted electronically in both Word and PDF formats to unep-gfc.fund@un.org before the deadline.
