Humboldt Research Fellowship for Postdoctoral and Experienced Researchers

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation offers Humboldt Research Fellowships to postdoctoral and experienced researchers from all over the world to conduct long-term research in Germany. The program supports researchers from all disciplines, including agriculture, climate science, environmental studies, and sustainable development.

Who Can Apply?

Researchers from any nationality with:

• A completed doctorate or PhD

• Postdoctoral applicants: Doctorate completed within the last 4 years

• Experienced researchers: Doctorate completed within the last 12 years

• A research proposal and a host in Germany (university or research institution)

• Strong academic publications

• Agriculture researchers working on areas such as food security, climate-smart agriculture, soil science, agroecology, or water resource management are highly encouraged to apply

What’s Funded?

• Monthly fellowship:

  • €2,670 for postdocs

  • €3,170 for experienced researchers

• Duration:

  • 6–24 months for postdocs

  • 6–18 months (can be split into up to 3 stays) for experienced researchers

• Additional benefits include:

  • Travel allowance

  • Language course funding

  • Family support

  • Alumni sponsorship

Application Deadline: Rolling applications – apply at any time! Selection committee meetings take place three times a year.
