The Iris Prize 2026 is now open for applications. This global award supports youth‑led projects that protect or restore nature and defend the rights of those working to safeguard it.

Who Can Apply

  • Age: Young people aged 14–24.
  • Leadership: Projects must be led by youth with autonomy and decision‑making power.
  • Focus: Initiatives protecting or restoring nature, with strong commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Structure: Projects may be fiscally sponsored or linked to NGOs/charities, but youth leaders must retain full authority.
  • Priority: Applications from the Global South are prioritized, though exceptional projects from the Global North are also considered.

Prize Categories

  • Seed Prize ($5,000): For groundbreaking new ideas to protect or restore nature. Ages 14–24.
  • Stem Prize ($10,000): For small‑scale, recently established projects. Ages 16–24.
  • Iris Prize ($15,000): For established projects with potential to replicate and scale. Ages 16–24.

Timeline

  • March 4, 2026: Open call launched.
  • April 8, 2026 (23:59 CET): Application deadline.
  • May 2026: Shortlist interviews.
  • June 2026: Judging panel review.
  • July 2026: Due diligence for winners.
  • August 2026: Winners informed; local filmmakers document winning projects.
  • September 2026: Virtual Awards Ceremony.
