The Norman Borlaug Award for Field Research and Application, endowed by The Rockefeller Foundation and presented annually by the World Food Prize Foundation, recognizes outstanding contributions to international agriculture and food production. Valued at $10,000, the award honors young professionals under 40 who demonstrate innovation, persistence, and leadership in advancing sustainable farming, food security, and rural development.

This prestigious award celebrates individuals working directly “in the field” with farmers, herders, fishers, and rural communities those applying science-based solutions to improve food production, nutrition, and livelihoods.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Nominees must be under 40 years old (not yet reached their 40th birthday by October 16 of the award year).
  • Must be actively engaged in agricultural research, extension, or field-level projects.
  • Eligible nominees may be affiliated with public or private institutions, NGOs, or research organizations.
  • The award is intended for one individual, though in rare cases, collaborative efforts may be recognized jointly.
  • Nominations must be submitted in English via the official portal.
  • Self-nominations are not accepted.

Nomination Documentation

Applicants must prepare and submit:

  • The nominee’s Curriculum Vitae or resume (including date of birth, education, and professional background).
  • One nomination letter and two support letters highlighting achievements.
  • A headshot photo (minimum 300 dpi) and up to two action photos of the nominee at work.
