SASTE Grant: 4th Call Now Open for Postdoctoral Researchers in Agriculture and Related Fields

The Supporting African Science and Tertiary Education (SASTE) Grant invites postdoctoral scientists from Sub-Saharan Africa to apply for a fully supported research stay in Austria. This prestigious opportunity aims to strengthen long-term collaborations between African and Austrian institutions in areas crucial to sustainable development.

Fields of Focus Include:

  • Agriculture
  • Forestry
  • Water Management
  • Renewable Energies
  • Nutritional Science
  • Human & Veterinary Medicine
    (Research that integrates Technical Sciences or IT in the above fields is also eligible.)

Eligibility Highlights:

  • Postdoctoral researchers under 42 years (or under 45 for women with childcare responsibilities)
  • Active research role at an institution in Sub-Saharan Africa
  • 3 to 7 years of postdoctoral experience
  • No study/work in Austria in the past 6 months
  • Commitment to return and work at the home institution for at least 2 years post-research stay
  • Strong English or German language skills
  • Host institution in Austria must confirm acceptance and provide research resources

The program supports applicants whose Austrian research collaboration enhances their ongoing projects at home, especially in climate-smart agriculture, sustainable forestry, water conservation, and nutritional resilience.
