Science by Women – 11th Edition Postdoctoral Fellowships

The Women for Africa Foundation is inviting applications for the 11th edition of its Science by Women program, a 6-month postdoctoral fellowship designed to empower African women in scientific research and technology transfer. This program promotes leadership in areas including agriculture, food security, health, water, energy, climate change, mathematics, and astronomy.

Fellowship Highlights

  • Conduct research at recognized Spanish Centers of Excellence.

  • 17 fellowships available across 15 host institutions.

  • Collaborate with over 50 program partners, including universities, research institutions, and foundations.

  • Fellows receive a monthly allowance of €2,600 gross (approx. €1,976 net after tax), round-trip flights up to €1,800, visa cost reimbursement up to €400, and access to seminars and events.

  • Participants join the N.O.W. is Africa Network for networking and mentoring opportunities.

Eligibility

  • Must be an African woman with nationality and residence in an African country.

  • Hold a PhD in a relevant scientific field.

  • Have a current or recent contractual relationship with a research organization or university in Africa.

  • Beneficiaries of previous editions are not eligible.

  • Must submit a 3-page research proposal tailored to up to two preferred host institutions.

Application Process

  • Applications must be submitted in English

  • Attach the following documents: CV, motivation letter, research proposal(s), letters of recommendation, PhD diploma (certified & translated), identification documents, and optional English certificate.

  • Deadline: November 30, 2025, at 23:59h (Madrid-CET+1 time).

Selection Criteria

  • Research career, experience, and CV quality.

  • Fit of experience with the host institution’s research topics.

  • Scientific and innovative quality of the project.

  • Expected economic or social impact.

  • Ethical considerations and project feasibility.

Important Notes

  • Fellowship is full-time research; other income sources or fellowships are not allowed.

  • Duration is 6 continuous months within a 1.5-year window starting January 2026.

  • Candidates are responsible for accommodation and must comply with host institution rules and Spanish laws.
