Hosted by Welthungerhilfe (WHH) and funded by the Seeding The Future Foundation (STF), the Global Food System Challenge (GFSC) is a leading initiative that recognizes and supports breakthrough innovations designed to transform food systems worldwide. The 2026 edition places strong emphasis on solutions that address critical challenges in the Global South, where agriculture remains the backbone of livelihoods and food security.

Agric Relevance

The Challenge is particularly significant for agricultural innovators, NGOs, and agripreneurs working to strengthen farming systems. It highlights innovations that:

  • Deliver safe and nutritious food for healthier diets.
  • Promote sustainable and regenerative practices in agriculture, including reducing food waste and loss.
  • Ensure equitable access to affordable and trusted food for farming communities.

For Ghanaian agricultural NGOs, youth innovators, and women founders, this is a unique opportunity to showcase solutions that improve productivity, resilience, and sustainability in farming systems.

Award Categories

The Challenge provides three levels of awards to support innovations at different stages of development:

  • Seed Awards – for promising early‑stage ideas.
  • Growth Awards – for validated concepts ready to scale.
  • Grand Awards – for transformative solutions with proven impact.

In 2026, 13 winners were selected across these categories, demonstrating the global reach and diversity of agricultural innovations supported.

  • Scientists, engineers, and innovators.
  • NGOs, non‑profits, and social enterprises.
