The Food Planet Challenge

  • Anywhere

Global food systems are one of the largest drivers of environmental change. Agricultural production, food processing, distribution, and consumption place significant pressure on the planet’s ecosystems. With the global population expected to approach 10 billion people by 2050, food production systems must evolve to ensure that people are fed without exceeding the Earth’s ecological limits.

The Food Planet Prize aims to accelerate solutions that can transform the way food is produced, distributed, and consumed while maintaining a healthy biosphere.

What the Prize Supports

The prize recognizes innovative initiatives that can transform food systems at scale. This includes solutions related to:

  • Sustainable agriculture and regenerative farming

  • Climate-smart agricultural practices

  • Food waste reduction and circular food systems

  • Sustainable fisheries and aquaculture

  • Biodiversity-friendly farming systems

  • Food storage, distribution, and supply chain innovations

  • Technologies that improve food system sustainability

  • Policies or programs that support resilient food systems

Initiatives can come from a wide range of actors, including research institutions, NGOs, startups, social enterprises, and global partnerships.

Who Can Be Nominated

The prize is intended to help scale impactful solutions that can transform global food systems and support planetary health.

Why This Matters for Agriculture

Agriculture sits at the center of the global food system challenge. Farmers, researchers, agri-tech innovators, and development organizations are increasingly developing solutions that can improve productivity while protecting ecosystems.

The Food Planet Prize offers an opportunity for agricultural innovations—such as sustainable farming practices, climate-resilient crops, food storage technologies, and digital agriculture solutions to gain global recognition and support for scaling their impact.

How to Nominate

The nomination process is designed to be simple and quick. Applicants can nominate themselves or another initiative, and the initial nomination takes only a few minutes to complete.

Shortlisted initiatives will then go through further evaluation to identify the most impactful solutions for transforming global food systems.
