 About the Fellowship

UKUDLA (African German Centre of Excellence) invites postdoctoral applications in sustainable, resilient food systems and applied data science. Funded by DAAD and the German Ministry of Food and Agriculture.

 Objectives

  • Strengthen academic and professional leadership in agri-food and data science in Sub-Saharan Africa.

  • Build institutional and regional research capacity.

  • Promote knowledge exchange and community impact.

 Host Institutions

  • University of the Western Cape (South Africa)

  • University of Mpumalanga (South Africa)

  • University of Pretoria (South Africa)

  • Lilongwe University of Natural and Agricultural Sciences (Malawi)

 Eligibility Criteria

  • Doctoral degree in a relevant field

  • Degree completed within the last 6 years

  • Must be a national or permanent resident of an African country

  • Not currently in another fellowship

  • English proficiency (TOEFL 79/80, IELTS 6, or prior English instruction)

Application Requirements

  • Motivational statements (4×250 words)

  • Project proposal form

  • Two academic recommendation letters (including one from PhD/fellowship supervisor)

  • Certified academic certificates and transcripts

  • Short CV (max. 2 pages with selected publications)

  • Proof of English proficiency

  • Copy of ID or passport

 Fellowship Benefits

 Expectations

  • Lead a thematic research area

  • Submit regular research progress reports
