Award Value:
Master’s: $20,000/year (up to 2 years)
Doctoral: $25,000/year (up to 4 years)
Duration:
Master’s: 12 or 24 months
Doctoral: 12, 24, 36, or 48 months

Eligibility Criteria:

Minimum GPA of 3.0 (departments may require higher)

Open to students of all nationalities

Must be admitted to and enrolled full-time in an eligible Master’s or PhD program

Program must be eligible for Tri-Agency funding

Must not have an admission hold or be receiving another award of equal or higher value

Must show strong research potential

Cannot change department/program while receiving the award

Cannot exceed four years of total UMGF funding

1–12 months – 12 months of funding
13+ months – Not eligible
PhD Students
0 months in program – 48 months

37+ months – Not eligible
Application Process:
Applications are submitted through academic departments. Departments recommend selected students to the Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS), which reviews and issues final decisions via email.
