Year-Round Innovative Project Funding for Agriculture & Rural Development

  • Funding
  • Anywhere

If you have an innovative idea that can reduce poverty and inequalities in developing countries — including through agriculture — this opportunity may be for you.

The Fund for Innovation in Development (FID) operates a year-round open call for projects, supporting innovative solutions implemented in low- and middle-income countries. Unlike many sector-specific grants, FID has no sectoral restrictions, meaning agriculture, agribusiness, food systems, and rural development projects are fully eligible.

If your project has the potential to create lasting, measurable impact, it may qualify — whether it is an early-stage idea or ready to scale.

Flexible Funding Based on Project Stage

FID provides grants tailored to your project’s level of maturity:

  • 🔹 Prototyping or piloting an early-stage idea
  • 🔹 Rigorous impact evaluation
  • 🔹 Initial scale-up
  • 🔹 Deployment through public institutions

This makes it ideal for agricultural innovations at different development stages — from testing a new farming model to scaling a proven agribusiness solution.

Geographic Eligibility

Projects must be implemented in countries classified as low- or middle-income according to the OECD DAC list.

However, projects located in:

  • Burkina Faso
  • Mali
  • Niger

are not eligible under this call.

Eligible applicants include:

Why Agriculture-Focused Organizations Should Consider FID

  • Test innovative farming approaches
  • Strengthen food systems
  • Improve smallholder farmer incomes
  • Promote inclusive agribusiness models
  • Generate evidence-based impact
