The Africa Research Excellence Fund (AREF) is pleased to announce the launch of the 2025/26 AREF Research Development Fellowship Programme, designed to support early career researchers in Africa to develop their skills and leadership in addressing human health challenges.

What is offered: A fellowship providing a three to nine-month placement at a leading research institution in the UK, Europe, or Africa, with additional support at your home institution before and after the placement. The fellowship includes funding of up to £47,000.
Eligibility:

Target Audience: Early career researchers who are research-active post-doctoral scientists and clinicians.

Nationality & Employment: Applicants must be nationals of and employed in Africa (specific eligibility criteria apply).

Successful fellows will receive support for accommodation, travel, subsistence, and training costs.
