About the Award
The African Plant Nutrition Institute (APNI) invites applications for the African Phosphorus Fellowship Award 2026. This fellowship supports innovative research programs focused on improving phosphorus (P) management in Africa’s crop agroecosystems.
Up to five awards of USD $5,000 each will be granted to full‑time scientists working in African National Agricultural Research and Extension Systems (NARES) institutions or universities.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be full‑time scientists at an African NARES institution or university.
- Hold a Ph.D. degree (postdoctoral scientists are eligible).
- Submit a creative proposal addressing knowledge gaps or synthesizing information to improve phosphorus management.
- Align proposals with at least one of APNI’s priority topics:
- 4R Nutrient Stewardship
- Carbon Farming
- Soil Health
- Precision Farming
Evidence of partnerships and institutional collaboration will be reviewed favorably. Female scientists are strongly encouraged to apply.
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit:
- A detailed description of how the fellowship will improve understanding of P management.
- Two letters of support (one from the applicant’s supervisor).
- A resume including date of birth, academic degrees, and relevant publications.
- A short report at the end of the award period describing how funds were used.
