The African Plant Nutrition Institute (APNI) is pleased to announce the 2026 African Plant Nutrition Outreach Fellowship, offering awards of USD $5,000 each to support African scientists, extension specialists, and educators. This fellowship is designed to strengthen education, training, and communication programs that improve the use and efficiency of plant nutrients across African agro-ecosystems.

Fellowship Focus
Applicants are invited to submit creative plans that address knowledge gaps or synthesize existing information for accelerated adoption of improved soil fertility management practices. Proposals should align with at least one of APNI’s priority initiatives:
- 4R Nutrient Stewardship
- Nutrient and Water Management Innovations for resilient agriculture in drylands
- Soil Health and Diagnostics
- Precision Farming
- Farmer-led On-farm Innovation
Evidence of partnerships and collaboration will be viewed favorably, and female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
Eligibility
- Full-time scientists, extension specialists, or educators working at African NARES institutions, universities, NGOs, or private sector organizations.
- Students are not eligible.
- Applicants must demonstrate a clear plan for outreach and implementation of soil fertility management practices.
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit:
- A detailed description of how the fellowship will improve outreach or implementation of soil fertility management.
- Two letters of support (one from the applicant’s supervisor).
- A resume/CV including academic degrees and relevant publications.
- A short report at the end of the award period on how funds were used.
All documents must be uploaded in English or French during the online application process.
