The Cornell Atkinson Center for Sustainability is inviting applications for the 2027 Postdoctoral Fellowship in Sustainability, offering early-career scholars the chance to conduct cutting-edge research that directly addresses sustainability challenges. For agricultural researchers, this fellowship provides a unique platform to advance innovations in soil health, nutrient management, precision farming, and resilient food systems.

Agriculture and Sustainability Focus
Agriculture is central to sustainability, and fellows can design projects that:
- Improve soil fertility and diagnostics for healthier agro-ecosystems.
- Advance precision farming techniques to optimize resource use.
- Develop climate-smart agriculture practices that enhance resilience in African and global food systems.
- Promote farmer-led innovation to bridge research and practice.
- Strengthen sustainable food security through transdisciplinary approaches.
By working with a Cornell faculty mentor and an external partner organization, fellows can ensure their agricultural research has real-world impact, from smallholder farms to global food policy.
Program Details
- Up to four fellows selected annually.
- Three-year, 12-month appointments at Cornell University.
- Salary: $65,000 per year plus benefits.
- Research and travel allowance: $12,000 per year.
- Flexible start date: June 1 – September 1, 2027.
- Fellows must reside in Ithaca, NY, and actively participate in Cornell Atkinson activities.
Eligibility
- Ph.D. completed between May 1, 2025 and September 2027 in a relevant field (including agriculture-related disciplines).
- Secure one PI-eligible Cornell faculty mentor and one external partner organization.
- Open to international applicants — including Ghanaians and other African scholars.
- Commitment to residency in Ithaca, NY.
