About the Award
The EDUFI Fellowship provides initial funding for foreign doctoral researchers to carry out research in Finland. It aims to internationalise Finnish research and teaching and foster cooperation between Finnish and foreign universities.
Award Value

EUR 1,900 per month as a personal grant

Duration: 3–12 months (3–6 months for doctoral students from foreign universities, except Ukrainian researchers who may receive up to 12 months)

Covers living expenses in Finland (does not cover accommodation, travel, visa, residence permit, or insurance costs)
Eligibility
Applicants must:

Be a Finnish university department (individual researchers cannot apply directly)

Be hosting a non-Finnish doctoral student who has been in Finland for no longer than one year at the time of application (exception for Ukrainian doctoral researchers fleeing the war)

Commit to supervising the fellow and providing facilities for research

Ensure the research fits one of these purposes:

Starting a doctoral research project to be completed in Finland

Completing a double degree in Finland
-
Conducting a study visit for compelling academic reasons

Not Eligible For
-
Post-doctoral research
-
Projects at the very end of a doctoral study
Application Process & Deadlines

Rolling deadline – applications accepted year-round

Apply at least 5 months before the planned start of the fellowship

Processing time: approx. 3 months (longer during summer)

Application approval rate: 35–40%
