Funding Opportunity: French Global Environment Facility (FFEM) – Submit Your Agricultural Project

  • Funding
  • Anywhere

The French Global Environment Facility (FFEM) is dedicated to funding innovative, pilot projects in developing countries that strengthen environment-development synergies. For the agriculture sector, this presents a valuable avenue to support initiatives in sustainable land use, climate-smart farming, and forest-friendly agribusiness.

Why this matters for agriculture:

  • FFEM supports projects related to forests & farmland, biodiversity, land degradation, and climate resilience.

  • Its focus on co-financing ensures shared ownership, mobilizing local resources and enhancing project sustainability.

Who can apply:

  • Any legal entity from NGOs and research bodies to government agencies or private-sector actors can submit a project, as long as it aligns with FFEM’s mandate and geographic scope.

Submission Process:

  1. Prepare a Project Opportunity Note (NOP)

  2. Obtain the formal support of one of the six FFEM steering committee institutions

  3. If endorsed, the project advances to the selection and steering committees for funding consideration

  4. FFEM provides a grant as minority co-financing, complemented by other funders

Key Themes for Agriculture:

  • Sustainable land and soil restoration

  • Agroforestry and reducing deforestation

  • Climate-smart agricultural innovations

  • Managing agricultural pollution and hazardous substances

  • Building rural resilience to climate change

Deadline:

There is no fixed deadline. FFEM accepts submissions on a rolling basis. Interested applicants can submit a Project Opportunity Note at any time, provided they secure the endorsement of an FFEM steering committee member.
