Powering Agriculture with Solar Energy
The Regional Off-Grid Electricity Access Project (ROGEAP) supports farmers, agribusinesses, and cooperatives across West and Central Africa to access clean, affordable solar energy. By strengthening the regional market for solar PV products and services, ROGEAP helps agricultural stakeholders overcome unreliable electricity — one of the biggest barriers to productivity and value addition.
Solar solutions under ROGEAP can be used for:
-
Irrigation: Solar-powered pumps enable reliable watering and extend growing seasons.
-
Cold storage: Solar refrigeration reduces post-harvest losses for fruits, vegetables, dairy, and fish.
-
Agro-processing: Solar energy powers mills, dryers, and small processing units for value addition.
-
Rural operations: Lighting, mobile charging, and digital tools improve market access and farm management.
Eligible countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Mauritania.
