Overview
The Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP) has launched its 9th Call for Proposals, offering approximately US$163 million in grant financing to support country‑led investments that strengthen food security, build resilience, and improve livelihoods for smallholder farmers and rural communities in the world’s poorest countries.

Agric Relevance
This call is highly relevant to agriculture and food systems in Africa, including Ghana, because it supports:
- Agricultural productivity – Investments that improve yields and strengthen crop and livestock systems.
- Market access – Initiatives that connect smallholder farmers to buyers and value chains.
- Climate resilience – Projects that help farmers adapt to climate shocks and reduce vulnerability.
- Women’s empowerment – Programs that prioritize women and girls in agricultural development.
- Inclusive food systems – Integrated approaches that make food systems more sustainable and equitable.
Who Can Apply
- National governments of eligible countries are the only entities that can submit proposals.
- Proposals must be prepared in consultation with approved Supervising Entities such as:
- African Development Bank (AfDB)
- Asian Development Bank (ADB)
- International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)
- Inter‑American Development Bank (IDB)
- World Bank
- Optional technical assistance: FAO or WFP
Note: NGOs, civil society organizations, farmer groups, private firms, and individuals cannot apply directly. However, they are strongly encouraged to liaise with their government (specifically the ministry responsible for agriculture or food security) to contribute to the national proposal.
Key Requirements
- Co‑financing is mandatory – proposals must include secured or expected co‑financing (cash or in‑kind).
- Stakeholder engagement – governments must demonstrate meaningful involvement of farmers, producer organizations, women’s groups, civil society, and private sector actors.
- Implementation readiness – proposals should show strong ownership, clear institutional arrangements, and capacity to deliver.
Timeline
- Launch: 13 May 2026
- Submission Deadline: 15 September 2026
- Decision: March 2027
