Overview

The Global Development Network (GDN) is calling for outstanding research proposals from low‑ and middle‑income countries for the 2026 edition of the GDN Awards. This year’s theme is Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) for Peace and Human Security. The program identifies and funds research with high potential for excellence and clear policy implications to address pressing development challenges.

Awards and Funding

  • Three winning projects will receive grants worth US$ 60,000 in total.
  • First Prize: US$ 30,000
  • Second Prize: US$ 20,000
  • Third Prize: US$ 10,000
  • Awardees will be paired with a world‑class academic advisor in their field.
  • Finalists will join a communications training and pitch their projects before a high‑level jury at the award ceremony.

Deadline

  • 17 June 2026 (6 PM IST)

Gender Equity Commitment

Since 2022, GDN has embedded equitable grant‑making processes to ensure more women researchers can compete and win. The selection process guarantees gender representation among the three finalists in the Outstanding Research on Development (ORD) category. Female researchers are strongly encouraged to apply.

Connector Grant

Awardees of the ORD category may later apply for the Connector Grant, which supports collaborative projects with MIDP grantees (Japanese Award for Most Innovative Development Project). This grant focuses on scaling impact, strengthening monitoring and evaluation, and fostering international cooperation.

Eligibility

  • Researchers from low‑ or middle‑income countries.
  • Projects with demonstrated proof of concept and clear policy implications.
  • Proposals must address development issues aligned with the 2026 theme.
