The National Geographic Society, in partnership with The Climate Pledge, has launched the Illuminating Climate Solutions funding opportunity. This initiative supports storytellers worldwide who are committed to showcasing authentic, solution‑driven narratives about climate resilience and innovation.
At a time when climate action is often reduced to statistics, this program emphasizes the human stories behind adaptation, resilience, and breakthrough solutions. Selected projects will inspire policymakers, business leaders, and communities to act toward a sustainable future.
Submission Deadline

Focus Areas
Story proposals may cover:
- Climate & Energy Transition: Carbon‑free energy, decarbonization, sustainable mobility.
- Nature & Land Systems: Water stewardship, biodiversity, restoration, regenerative agriculture, food systems.
- Built & Human Systems: Climate migration, public health, social adaptation, resilient infrastructure.
- Adaptation in Extreme Weather: Hurricanes, heat waves, wildfires, floods.
Eligibility
- Applicants must have lived in or worked closely with the communities featured in their stories, or demonstrate strong collaboration with local organizations.
- A proven track record in media projects is required, with a portfolio (website) submitted as part of the application.
- Applicants may request up to USD $100,000. Those with less than five years of experience are encouraged to request up to USD $20,000.
- Funds may be used over two years, with clear evaluation plans for project impact.
