The SG-NAPI program, supported by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) and administered by UNESCO-TWAS, empowers early-career African researchers who have recently returned from completing a PhD abroad. Grants fund high-level research projects in Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Engineering, ICT, Mathematics, Medical Sciences, Physics, and Germany’s High-Tech Agenda, carried out in African countries lagging in science and technology.
Who Can Apply:

African nationals, ≤40 years old

Hold a PhD obtained outside their home country in the last 5 years

Recently returned or will return to an academic/research position in their home country

Must not hold another TWAS/OWSD Early Career grant

Total funding up to USD 67,700

Duration: up to 30 months

Covers equipment, consumables, select fieldwork, literature, MSc student support, conference grants, collaborative mobility, and open access publications

Excludes salaries, travel (unless specified), laptops, drones, lab animals, and consultancy fees
