PhD Position in Synthetic Biology
Start Date: January 2026 or later
Location: University of Alberta, Canada
Supervisor: Dr. Gavin Chen

Research Focus:
Metabolic engineering of yeast for the production of value-added bioproducts. Lab Website

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field

  • Experience in yeast or microbial metabolic engineering (preferred)

  • Strong background in molecular biology

  • Fermentation knowledge is an asset

  • Must meet UAlberta admission requirements

MSc or PhD Position in Genome Editing and Plant Biotechnology
Start Date: September 2025 or later
Location: University of Alberta (Research partially at NRC Saskatoon)
Co-supervisors: Dr. Gavin Chen & Dr. Daoquan Xiang

Project Focus:
Genome editing & molecular breeding in canola for improved crop productivity.

Qualifications:

  • PhD applicants: MSc in plant molecular biology or related field

  • MSc applicants: BSc in biology or related discipline

  • Skills in plant transformation, tissue culture, and bioinformatics are advantages

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

  • Must meet departmental admission requirements

Funding Includes:

  • Full stipend

  • Conference travel

  • Research costs
