Strengthening Food Security for the World’s Poorest Farmers
The Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP) has launched its 9th Call for Proposals, offering US$163 million in grant financing to support country‑led investments that strengthen food security, build resilience, and improve livelihoods for smallholder farmers and rural communities in the world’s poorest countries.
Purpose
This call comes at a critical moment, as conflict, climate shocks, economic instability, and rising food and fertilizer costs continue to drive hunger and malnutrition worldwide. GAFSP seeks to finance 6–10 projects that deliver high‑impact, scalable solutions aligned with national priorities and the GAFSP Strategic Plan (2025–2030).
Priority Areas
Proposals should emphasize:
- Agricultural productivity
- Market access
- Climate resilience
- Women and girls empowerment
- Inclusive food systems
Proposals must demonstrate strong country ownership, readiness for implementation, co‑financing, and innovative approaches to food security and nutrition challenges.
Eligibility
- Open to low‑income countries eligible under GAFSP.
- Applications must be prepared by governments in consultation with:
- Supervising Entities
- Smallholder farmers and producer organizations
- Women’s groups
- Private sector actors
- Civil society and development partners
Timeline
- Launch: 13 May 2026
- Deadline: 15 September 2026 (submission of proposals and required documents)
- Awards: End of 2026
