The African Plant Nutrition Institute (APNI) is inviting applications for the 2026 African Plant Nutrition Outreach Fellowship, offering awards of USD $5,000 each to support African scientists, extension specialists, and educators conducting education, training, and communication programs that improve the use and efficiency of plant nutrients in African agro-ecosystems.

Agriculture Focus
This fellowship is directly agric-related, as it supports outreach and implementation of improved soil fertility management practices. Priority areas include:
- 4R Nutrient Stewardship – applying the right source, rate, time, and place of nutrients.
- Nutrient and Water Management – innovations for resilient agriculture in drylands.
- Soil Health and Diagnostics – strengthening nutrient management and soil testing.
- Precision Farming – using technology to optimize inputs and improve yields.
- Farmer-led Innovation – scaling practical solutions developed by farmers.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be full-time scientists, extension specialists, or educators working at an African NARES institution, university, NGO, or private sector organization.
- Not be students.
- Submit a creative plan addressing knowledge gaps or synthesizing information for accelerated adoption of soil fertility management practices.
- Provide evidence of partnerships and collaboration (female candidates are especially encouraged to apply).
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit:
- A detailed description of how the fellowship will improve outreach or implementation of soil fertility management.
- Two letters of support (one from the applicant’s supervisor).
- A resume/CV including academic degrees and relevant publications.
- A short report at the end of the award period on how funds were used.
All documents must be uploaded in English or French during the online application process.
