The Science Granting Councils Initiative (SGCI) has launched a multilateral research call to support collaborative, multi-country projects aligned with Africa’s Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy (STISA‑2034). This opportunity directly supports research in agriculture, alongside health, AI, energy, and environment, making it highly relevant for agricultural scientists and institutions across Africa.

Funding: CAD 50,000 – CAD 300,000 per consortium member
Agriculture Focus
The call prioritizes proposals that strengthen Africa’s agricultural systems and food security. Eligible projects may include:
- Soil fertility and crop productivity – advancing sustainable farming practices.
- Climate-smart agriculture – innovations to adapt farming systems to climate change.
- Agro-ecosystem resilience – protecting biodiversity while improving yields.
- Farmer-led innovation – scaling grassroots solutions for food security.
- Digital agriculture – leveraging AI and data for smarter farming.
By focusing on agriculture, consortia can contribute to food security, rural livelihoods, and sustainable development across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Eligibility
- Applications must be submitted by a consortium: one lead applicant + 2–4 co-applicant organizations.
- Institutions must be based in participating SGCI countries, including Ghana.
- Each consortium must nominate a full-time principal investigator.
- Proposals must align with at least one thematic stream (agriculture, health, AI, energy, environment).
