Overview

African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) is seeking seasoned training consultants to join its pool of expert facilitators. Since 2008, AWARD has delivered career‑development programs for emerging African women scientists, shaping gender‑responsive agricultural research and development (AR4D) across the continent.

This consultancy opportunity is designed for professionals who can support the design, delivery, and evaluation of AWARD’s training and capacity‑building programs, contributing directly to strengthening Africa’s AR4D leadership and institutional resilience.

Areas of Expertise Required

Consultants should demonstrate subject matter expertise in one or more of the following:

  • Gender equity in agrifood systems
  • Gender‑responsive agriculture policies
  • Gender and climate sciences
  • Gender equity and social inclusion
  • Innovation and technological development
  • Leadership and management development
  • Negotiation skills
  • Executive leadership coaching
  • Mentorship
  • Curriculum design and delivery (virtual and in‑person)

Duties and Responsibilities

Training consultants will:

  • Conduct training needs assessments
  • Design course programs and objectives
  • Develop interactive and impactful course content
  • Deliver and co‑facilitate training sessions
  • Participate in debrief sessions with other trainers
  • Facilitate training‑related meetings
  • Conduct course evaluations
  • Prepare and submit comprehensive training reports

Qualifications

  • Advanced university degree in education, agricultural sciences, social sciences, or related fields
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in designing and delivering capacity development programs regionally or internationally
  • Expertise in adult learning principles and curriculum design
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of Africa’s AR4D landscape
  • Experience working with diverse teams across cultures and sectors
  • Proficiency in English and/or French
  • Familiarity with ICT tools for training delivery (e.g., webinars, MOOCs, online platforms)
  • Certification in leadership, mentoring, or gender training is an added advantage
