Overview
The FCI4Africa initiative, funded by the European Union, is dedicated to strengthening resilient, equitable, and nutritious food systems across Africa. The Open Call 2026 invites proposals from research and technology stakeholders to develop innovative solutions that promote fair trade, digital transformation, and climate‑neutral agriculture.
Who Can Apply
Eligible applicants include:
- Universities and research institutes
- Technology developers
- R&D SMEs
- Innovation‑driven start‑ups
- Other multidisciplinary actors in research and technology
Focus Areas
Applicants are encouraged to propose solutions that:
- Promote open and equitable trade practices
- Harmonise non‑tariff measures (NTMs)
- Advance digital transformation of food systems
- Expand climate‑neutral agriculture
- Strengthen food safety technologies (e.g., aflatoxin bioprotectants, hermetic sealed bags in Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Kenya)
- Support traceability solutions and ICT adoption for priority foods
What Winners Receive
- Funding of up to €50,000 per sub‑project
- Access to the FCI4Africa innovation network (≥150 local stakeholders)
- Tailored support through decision‑support systems, trade models, and digital knowledge hubs
- Opportunities to scale innovative technologies and business models
Application Process
- Submit proposals via the official FCI4Africa Open Call portal.
- Applications must include technical details, financial viability, and alignment with FCI4Africa’s objectives.
