Overview

The Seeds of Sustainability Fund, managed by the Ceiba Foundation for Tropical Conservation, provides small grants to catalyze locally led projects that address biodiversity loss, climate change, and environmental inequality. These grants are designed to empower community organizations, small nonprofits, and individuals in tropical regions where a small amount of funding can make a big difference.

Grant Details

  • Funding Amount: USD $1,000 – $10,000
  • Application Opens: 15 April 2026
  • Deadline: 15 May 2026
  • Project Duration: Minimum 4 months, maximum 2 years
  • First‑time Applicants: Up to USD $5,000
  • Conservation Partners: Successful grantees may join Ceiba’s partner network and apply for up to USD $10,000 annually in future cycles.

Eligibility

Applicants must be:

  • Small nonprofits, indigenous community groups, schools, small universities, associations, or individuals.
  • Based in developing countries within the tropics.
  • Working on projects aligned with Ceiba’s Conservation Priorities.
  • Organizations with annual budgets under USD $500,000.
  • Able to provide documentation of nonprofit status, organizational constitution, or letters of support (for individuals).

Conservation Priorities

Projects should focus on:

  • Species Protection & Anti‑Poaching: Monitoring populations, protecting nesting/breeding sites, reducing hunting/fishing pressure, bycatch reduction.
  • Habitat Protection & Restoration: Establishing reserves, assisted regeneration, habitat connectivity, and restoration of threatened ecosystems.

Application Process

  1. Complete the Eligibility Check online.
  2. Fill out the application form (English or Spanish).
  3. Prepare and upload a budget using the provided template.
  4. Submit supporting documents (nonprofit status, letters of support, etc.).

Reporting Requirements

Ceiba emphasizes simple, practical reporting:

  • Grant recipients must provide brief updates (weekly, monthly, or bimonthly depending on project duration).
  • Updates should include short text, photos, or videos suitable for social media.
  • A final summary of project outcomes and fund usage is required at project completion.

  • Kichwa Midwives (Ecuador): Protecting forest diversity through seed collection and agroforestry.
  • Sociedad Salvaje Salvadoreña (El Salvador): Protecting sea turtles, parrots, and spider monkeys.
  • Fundación Sumac Muyu (Ecuador): Safeguarding the Bigal River Biological Reserve.
  • Njala University (Sierra Leone): Student‑led reforestation and eco‑clubs.
  • NatureHub Collective (Kenya): Restoring mangroves and introducing beekeeping for women.
  • AICRO‑Uganda: Restoring forest corridors and promoting sustainable agroforestry.
